Lascaux

Lascaux cave is one of the most important decorated caves from the Palaeolithic era, in terms of the number and aesthetic quality of its artworks. The paintings and engravings that it contains are estimated to be approximately 18,000 and 17,000 years old, according to studies carried out on the objects discovered in the cave. The cave is in Black Périgord, in the Vézère Valley in the municipality of Montignac (Dordogne), around forty kilometres south-east of Périgueux and 25 kilometres from Sarlat-la-Canéda.
